Joloano Moro

About this record

This small instructional volume was compiled in the Philippine Islands in 1914, primarily on the island of Jolo in the Sulu Archipelago. It represents an effort by American personnel to facilitate communication and foster better relations with the local Moro (Tausūg) population following the establishment of the American-led Moro Province. The text is largely a direct translation of American-published educational materials, specifically The Philippine Chart Primer and The First Year Book, adapted for use with the local Joloano Moro language, supplemented with a vocabulary of common words and phrases. The project, undertaken by a civilian and a military officer, reflects the civil-military nature of the American administration's efforts to educate and interact with the people of the Southern Philippines during the early 20th century.

The book is considered valuable. It is advised that researchers use digital copy rather than physical books for preservation purposes. Fil. 499.2115 B86 APA Citation: Buffum, K. G., & Lynch, C. (1914). Joloano Moro. McCullough & Co.
