This volume represents the second, revised, and enlarged edition of an essential early 20th-century linguistic resource for the Iloko language of the Philippines. Published in 1922, the work was produced during the American colonial period and reflects the growing need for American missionaries, educators, and administrators to communicate with the Ilocano people. The book was initially edited by Hermon P. Williams and subsequently revised by W. H. Hanna and H. W. Widdoes. It stands on the foundational work of earlier Augustinian Friars, such as Franco Lopez, and acknowledges the valuable contributions of Filipino linguistic collaborators, including Eustaquio V. Jacob. The publication by Mission Press and Evangel Press in Manila and La Union respectively highlights its context within evangelical and educational efforts in the region.
