Grave registration reports, United States Forces in the Philippines (USFIP), 11G Infantry and 7th Military District

United States Forces in the Philippines (USFIP), District Plans & Training Office (11G Infantry); United States Forces in the Philippines (USFIP), 7th Military District

About this record

This document contains two distinct Grave Registration Reports issued by units of the United States Forces in the Philippines (USFIP), the umbrella organization for recognized Allied military forces, including Filipino guerrillas, operating against the Japanese occupation during World War II. The first report, dated July 10, 1944, from the District Plans & Training Office of the 11G Infantry, records the burial of Corporal Hipolito MONOPOLDE in Tugban, Bohol. This unit number likely belongs to one of the Philippine Army (PA) guerrilla regiments operating under the USFIP structure, engaged in clandestine resistance operations prior to the full-scale Allied invasion later that year. The location on Bohol highlights the widespread nature of the resistance movement throughout the Philippine islands. The second report, dated November 30, 1944, from the 7th Military District (which covered Negros and Siquijor), lists two soldiers of the 75th Infantry (PA): Corp. Patricio CANUBAY and Pvt. Dionisio OLIVINO, both killed in action in Ayungon, Negros Oriental. The 75th Infantry was a known provisional regiment of the Philippine Army activated under the Negros Force and later heavily involved in guerrilla activities. The reports are essential primary source documents that attest to the sacrifices of Filipino soldiers in the US-led war effort and the administrative procedures taken to account for the fallen, a critical function of the Quartermaster Graves Registration Service during the conflict.

The manuscript is considered valuable. It is advised that researchers use digital copy rather than physical manuscript for preservation purposes.
