The Portal 1918 is the yearbook of Silliman Institute, published by the Senior Class. The publication is dedicated to the members of the Faculty. The editorial board faced significant logistical and financial challenges, including the need to use an external printer (E. C. McCullough & Co.'s Press) after the Silliman Press could not accommodate the work. Notably, the class justified producing a smaller, less extravagant annual by stating they did not feel it right to "spend money extravagantly" given the millions suffering on the "battle fields of stricken Europe". This reflects the global consciousness and moral discipline emphasized by the Presbyterian mission school during the First World War. The volume documents the school's commitment to the motto "TRY, TRUST, TRIUMPH!" , showcasing the curriculum (including courses in Justice of the Peace law and Gregg Stenography) , the student organizations (like the Rizal Literary Society and Club Español) , and the establishment of the Silliman War Relief Association to aid victims of the war.
