The Pledge of Piang

About this record

Published during the height of World War II in 1943, The Pledge of Piang is a work of adventure fiction set in Mindanao, Philippines, just prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. The story follows two American boys who encounter Piang, the son of a powerful Moro chieftain. The book is part of a series (beginning with Piang, the Moro Chieftain in 1941) intended to introduce Western audiences to the cultures of the Southern Philippines.
Historically, the "Piang" stories are significant for their portrayal of the Moro people during the American colonial and Commonwealth periods, often blending adventure with the colonial perspectives of the early 20th century. Its publication in 1943 served as wartime morale-boosting literature, highlighting Filipino-American cooperation against common threats.

The book is considered valuable. It is advised that researchers use digital copy rather than physical books for preservation purposes.
