This document, the 1998 Portal, serves as a formal retrospective of the academic and social life at Silliman University during the 1997–1998 academic year. As the university neared its centennial, this publication captured the institution's ongoing commitment to its foundational motto, Via, Veritas, Vita (The Way, The Truth, and The Life). The 1998 edition is historically significant as it documents the university's transition into the late 20th century, highlighting the achievements of its graduates across various disciplines, from the arts and sciences to engineering and divinity. It preserves the narratives of student life under the iconic acacia trees and within the historic Silliman Hall, which was built in 1903 and remains a cornerstone of the university's architectural and cultural heritage. This yearbook acts as a primary source for researchers and alumni, reflecting the Sillimanian spirit of service, excellence, and faith during a period of national growth in the Philippines.
