Established in 1901 as the first American university in the Philippines and Asia, Silliman University has long utilized its student manual to codify the "Silliman Spirit"—a blend of Christian faith, academic excellence, and community service. The 2015 edition reflects the institution's adaptation to contemporary educational standards in the Philippines, including the transition toward the K-12 educational reform and updated student rights and responsibilities.
