About this record

This souvenir program and summary report document the centennial anniversary of the Silliman University Divinity School (SUDS), celebrated virtually from August 28 to 30, 2021, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Established in June 1921 as the Silliman Bible School under the leadership of Dr. Frank Laubach and early Congregationalist and Presbyterian missionaries, the institution was initially designed to train Visayan-speaking pastors and evangelists. Over the past century, it evolved into a premier center for theological higher education, peace studies, and liturgical music in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, accredited by the Association for Theological Education in Southeast Asia (ATESEA).

The document records celebratory messages, keynote lectures, and project launches, capturing the school's historical footprint on both local culture and national events. SUDS alumni have served as local church leaders, bishops, academic presidents, military chaplains, and pioneer labor union organizers (such as the National Federation of Labor). Culturally, the institution pioneered the indigenization of Philippine Christian worship through indigenous hymnody projects (e.g., Dr. Elena G. Maquiso's Alawiton sa Pagtoo and the HINALAD Cebuano liturgical collection). Geographically situated in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, the Divinity School remains a cornerstone of Silliman University’s Christian identity and a vital contributor to the history of Protestantism and ecumenism in the Philippines.

The book is considered valuable. It is advised that researchers use digital copy rather than physical books for preservation purposes.
