A handbook and grammar of the Tagalog language

About this record

This volume represents one of the earliest comprehensive Tagalog reference works compiled by an American officer during the early period of American colonial rule in the Philippines following the Philippine-American War. Published under the auspices of the U.S. War Department's Office of the Chief of Staff, the handbook served a dual administrative and military purpose: enabling American military personnel, civil administrators, and educators to communicate effectively in Tagalog, which was recognized as a principal regional language of Luzon.

The book is considered valuable.  It is advised that researchers use digital copy rather than physical books for preservation purposes.
